ENTRECARD’S NEW ADVERTISEMENT SYSTEM

Published by ndfenceofobama at 9:23 am under Blogging Tips, work from home Edit This

logo_and_header.pngTody I received an email outlining Entrecard’s new advertisement system designed to help bring more money to the bloggin community. I am posting the basics of the email here and giving Entrecard users the opportunity to weigh in. Does anyone think this will help? Is it a good system?
1. In one week, Entrecard will allow anyone can advertise through Entrecard widgets for CPM rates. Entrecard is making 50% of its network available.

2. With the money they make, they are going to allow us to sell back credits to Entrecard for cash.

3. Credits will become more valuable.

4. The widget must be placed above the fold.

Does this sound like a good idea to everyone?

I read about it today. I’m not sure what I think about it yet. If it somehow translates to more traffic for me, I’m cool with pimping products and services. Hell, we’re on Today.com where they run ads that we have no editorial control over. I just wonder if now there will be a conflict in terms of use.

I wish I just had a better handle on how to use the damn thing. I came to write, all the webmaster crap keeps me confused.

I just wonder how this really changes things. You know if they say it is going to help us make money, it is going to really help them make money. I guess only time will tell. I just received a message from TeamEzine saying they are withdrawing from Entrecard due to the changes. I am not sure exactly why, but it must have something to do with conflicting viewpoints about ads. Maybe it is the space issue Entrecard is dedicating to this. Anybody have a clue?

Today.com doesn’t allow monetary advertisements so we might have to stop using it :( I hope this isn’t the case, I love EC.

ndfence, we already have ads for opposing viewpoints on our blogs, so as long as we still get traffic to our blogs, who cares? My favorite was the gay dating ad on some right wing blog complaining about gay marriage. Classic! But I get ads for Ann Coulter on my blog and I couldn’t think of anyone with a more opposing viewpoint from my own. I’ve tried making money from blogging by running my own adsense program and like so many other bloggers I’ve heard from, they claimed I violated their terms of service right before they were supposed to send me a check. If you can drive the traffic here, it’s less of a headache.

SK, is there any mention of a TOU conflict on the today.com forum? I can’t log in there at all for some reason.

Jason, I agree. i am not sure how this will play out. As SKW noted, Today.com doesn’t allow certain monetary ads.

To my reader who asked about “above the fold” , that simply means placing the Entrecard widget on the first page of your blog, preferably in the top half of the page. Entrecard doesn’t want anyone to have to scroll all the way down someones blog to see the widget.

    skwguitar, Jason,
Im thinking collaberation.. Lets move on from today.com and start independant net mag with some editorial policy, cut out the crap and still have alternitive views with commnts and then y’all could taylor the advertizing policy to benifit both writers and the mag. Im just not an IS guy, got some interesting connects to big data pimps but not sure how to use them yet. . Doubtlessly I’m confused but seems to me if www.counterpunc.org can do it, it can be done. There site looks simple as shit but has great content. And I actually think having a decent editorial policy or at least dividing op eds so you didnt have to look at crap to get something of value would be huge.. Maybe its just cost prohibitive, but it doesnt look like today.com has laid out any major bank, looks like a simple opperation…even if expensive.. maybe backers can be found. Maybe one of the chaps writing on this site. who knows.. Just a stupid idea, I get alot of ‘em….

@Jason - I believe it has to do with accepting third party ads on today.com’s site… I’m not real sure about the technicalities, but the mods have said that EC will be a banned widget if they go ahead with these changes.

@dsent - I’ve actually been thinking about this for a while. I think we definitely have some of the writers to do it, right here on today.com - I say let’s do it.

    skwguitar,
hit me up brah, what can I do…. I think we can do it better than today.com, just got to build a team. Let me know what you’re thinking. If can, can, if no can, still can. Let’s make it happen.

SK & dsent - if we can make money at it, let’s do it. While I love to create content and all, these are tough times and I gots to get paid. I’ve tried making money on my own website and the main problem I had was that google adsense has a tendency to revoke accounts as soon as they’re about to cut you a check, other ad systems don’t seem to have quite the potential to make as much money as adsense, and selling your own ads without some kind of third party system is a headache. There are other third party programs that are good, but you’ve got to have proven traffic and popularity before they’ll even talk to you. Feel free to email me directly at jason (dot) buckley (at) gmail (dot) com if you want to discuss it further.

There is something on the Today forum about discussions taking place with EC as to whether this can be resolved to satisfy both parties, so we will have to see what happens.

I’m gonna get some ideas together and I’ll shoot you an e-mail shortly. I think between you, me, dsent, animal, and maybe a couple other writers we would have an incredibly strong team with some very diverse ideas.

We should invite Poor Republican too, if for no other reason than to make his dumb ass deal with comments.

  16. skwguitaron 18 Mar 2009 at 4:33 pm edit this

lol @ Jason I dunno if I could handle that…

  17. dsenton 18 Mar 2009 at 8:51 pm edit this

Sounds like a deal breaker Jason. But I’m thinking he could be quoted from time to time as an example of just how divorced from reality some bloggers can be??

Great Idea. I am all for that as well. Open up the comment section!
